Cain and Abel: A Lesson in Jealousy
Summary
The story of how jealousy led Cain to hurt his brother Abel, and what happened after.
Moral
Controlling jealousy and doing the right thing keeps you on Allah’s path.
Way back when Prophet Adam was alive, he had two sons named Cain and Abel—or Qabil and Habil in Arabic. They were supposed to give something they loved to Allah as a thank-you gift, kind of like sharing your favorite snack to show you’re grateful. Abel picked his best sheep because he really wanted to please Allah. Cain just gave some boring old crops he didn’t care about.
Allah liked Abel’s gift better because it came from the heart, and a fire came down from the sky to take it—pretty cool, right? But Cain got super jealous. Instead of trying harder next time, he let that jealousy grow until he couldn’t stand it. One day, he got so mad that he fought Abel and ended up killing him. That was the first time anyone had ever hurt someone like that on Earth.
Afterward, Cain didn’t know what to do with Abel’s body. Then Allah sent a crow—a big black bird—to show him how to bury it by digging a hole in the ground. Cain felt awful and realized he’d messed up big time. This story teaches us that jealousy can push you to do bad things, but if you stay chill and trust Allah’s plan, you’ll be way better off.
