Postpone repayment for the needy or remit it

This verse from the Quran teaches us about compassion and kindness in financial matters. If someone who owes you money is struggling, you should give them more time to repay. Even better, if you can afford it, forgiving the debt and treating it as charity will earn you great blessings from Allah. This principle encourages us to be understanding and supportive, especially towards those experiencing hardship. In the Tafsir of this verse, scholars explain that Islamic teachings highly value empathy and mercy. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) often emphasized the importance of helping others and being generous. For instance, in a Hadith reported by Abu Huraira in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Whoever alleviates a burden from a believer in this world, Allah will alleviate a burden from him on the Day of Judgment.” This illustrates that by showing patience and kindness to those facing difficulties, we ourselves become recipients of Allah's mercy. Practicing this rule fosters a society of mutual support and care. It guides us to balance justice with compassion, ensuring that economic transactions do not lead to unnecessary hardship or distress. Therefore, when dealing with debt, always remember that the reward for patience and charity is far greater in the sight of Allah and leads to a more harmonious community.
