Believe and do righteous deeds

This verse highlights the importance of coupling faith with good deeds, assuring believers of the ultimate reward, a paradise where rivers flow beneath gardens. In Islam, belief alone is not sufficient without accompanying actions that demonstrate devotion and contribute positively to the community. Actions like prayer, charity, and kindness are examples of righteous deeds that support one's faith. Tafsir Ibn Kathir explains that the verse assures believers who maintain their faith and continually perform good deeds of an eternal reward in paradise. The gardens beneath which rivers flow symbolize the eternal peace and continuous blessings granted to the righteous in the afterlife. This concept is found throughout Islamic teachings, emphasizing that both belief and action are necessary for spiritual success. As affirmed in Hadith recorded in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Actions are but by intentions." Thus, intentions matter, and only those actions stemming from sincere faith lead to eternal rewards. This principle is further emphasized in other parts of the Quran, such as in Surah Al-Asr, where it is stated that human beings are in loss unless they believe, do righteous deeds, and encourage truth and patience. The Quran, through various verses, continuously encourages believers to lead lives filled with active willingness to do good and serve others, as well as to strengthen their faith and cultivate a deep connection with Allah. The harmonious combination of belief and action leads one to a fulfilling life and eternal happiness in the hereafter.
