Do not use Allah’s name to hinder justice; cooperate in righteousness
Verse: 2:224
Translation
And do not make [your oath by] Allah an excuse against being righteous and fearing Allah and making peace among people. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.
Description
Don't use promises to God as an excuse to avoid doing what is right or making peace with others.
Detailed Explanation
This verse from the Quran teaches us not to use our oaths to Allah as an excuse for not doing good deeds or avoiding our responsibilities, especially when it comes to making peace and being just. For instance, sometimes people might make a promise to Allah and then use that promise as an excuse not to help others or settle disputes. Instead, we should focus on being kind, fair, and peaceful, as Allah hears and knows everything we do.
In order to understand this rule better, it's important to remember that Allah values justice, kindness, and peace among people. The Tafsir Ibn Kathir explains that invoking Allah’s name should never become a barrier that prevents one from doing good deeds. Instead, believers should strive to resolve conflicts and foster positive relationships. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) always emphasized the importance of speaking truthfully and mending relations, as these are highly regarded in Islamic teachings.
Making peace and helping one another are noble acts that please Allah. By not hiding behind our promises, we can ensure that our actions reflect Islam’s core values of righteousness and community harmony. Remember, Allah hears your intentions and knows your true motivations, so aim to live in a way that honors Him by spreading goodness and peace.
