Do not spread corruption on earth

The verse warns against the behavior of those who claim to be reformers but actually spread corruption. It highlights the importance of ensuring that our actions truly contribute to the well-being of society, instead of causing harm or discord. In Islamic teachings, reform should lead to peace and improvement rather than chaos. Tafsir Ibn Kathir explains that the hypocrites addressed in this verse pretended to be pious and claimed their actions were for social reform, but in reality, they were misleading the community. The Quran consistently teaches against deceit and self-deception, urging believers to be truthful and genuinely pursue actions that benefit all. This is further emphasized by the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who advised against causing harm in any form. In a hadith reported in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (PBUH) stated, “The Muslim is one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe” (Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 65). The concept of not spreading corruption is deeply rooted in Islamic values which prioritize justice, fairness, and the welfare of all creatures. It serves as a reminder for Muslims to examine their intentions and ensure their deeds align with the principles of justice and righteousness. Each individual bears a social responsibility to contribute positively and avoid actions that lead to societal or environmental harm, reflecting the Quranic emphasis on maintaining the balance and harmony Allah has established on Earth.
