Do not abandon your faith
Verse: 2:108
Translation
Or do you intend to ask your Messenger as Moses was asked before? And whoever exchanges faith for disbelief has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way.
Description
This verse teaches Muslims to hold strong to their faith and not to exchange it for disbelief.
Detailed Explanation
In this verse, Allah advises you not to question Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with unnecessary demands or skepticisms, as some people did with Prophet Musa (PBUH) in the past. Instead, it's important to sincerely seek understanding and guidance. The verse warns you against swapping your belief for disbelief, as this would lead you away from the path of righteousness.
The context here relates to the challenges faced by previous prophets, like Prophet Musa (PBUH), who were often confronted by followers seeking miraculous signs or questioning their guidance. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), similarly, faced people who wanted miraculous signs as proof of his prophethood. However, true faith requires trust in Allah’s wisdom and guidance without demanding signs.
Tafsir Ibn Kathir emphasizes that the transition from faith to disbelief results in losing the straight path, which is the path that leads to Allah's pleasure and paradise. It is crucial for you to understand that faith is not just a matter of intellectual acceptance but also of spiritual certainty and trust in the unseen. Therefore, by maintaining firm belief and reliance on Allah’s guidance, you stay rightly guided and protected from straying.
